Isabel Saavedra

JD, Founding Attorney

Immigration Attorney, Founder of Saavedra & Perez Law, serving the East Coast

As the Founding Attorney at Saavedra & Perez, I am deeply committed to guiding our clients through their legal journeys. I have 15 years of experience working in immigration firms, including 8 years as an attorney and 6 years as a legal assistant. I’ve developed a focus area working on T visas, where I fight to protect and empower survivors of trafficking, helping them on their path to safety and stability.

I personally conduct most consultations and screenings, ensuring we can effectively support those in need. I represent our clients in court and USCIS hearings and interviews, advocating for their rights with unwavering dedication.

My Immigration Story

Working in immigration law is deeply personal to me. I was just nine years old when I moved to the US and lived undocumented until I was 20. Navigating the complexities and uncertainties of that life shaped my identity profoundly.

Since I turned 21, I’ve dedicated my career to immigration law because I know firsthand the challenges immigrants face. Every case I work on is an opportunity to make a real difference, helping others achieve the security and opportunities I once longed for. It’s not just a job; it’s my mission to empower others to build their lives here in the United States, just as I have.

My favorite thing about my work is helping others achieve the security and relief that comes with obtaining legal status. Having been undocumented for 10 years, I understand the constant fear of deportation and the immense stress it causes. The day I received my work permit and social security number was life-changing. Helping others achieve that same sense of stability and peace of mind is incredibly rewarding and truly priceless.

Where do I feel like I belong?

As a first-generation immigrant who spent my first ten years in the U.S. in undocumented status, I know firsthand what it means to feel like you don’t belong. During those ten years, I dreamed about going back to Colombia, the place I always thought was home. But when I could finally travel back, I no longer felt like I belonged there either. Once I obtained my US citizenship at the age of 26, I started feeling at home, but something was still missing.

I discovered the missing piece the moment we established Saavedra & Perez Law.

This law firm isn’t just a workplace; it’s where my heart feels at peace and my spirit thrives. Here, I am embraced for who I am and what I bring, blending my unique cultural experiences into a powerful force for justice and advocacy. The joy I feel is indescribable, a testament to finally finding where I truly belong.

Family is my favorite thing

My absolute favorite thing is being home with my husband, Mike, and our two sons, Elias (7) and Jack (5). Nothing compares to the joy of our family time. We love camping, hiking, and being out in nature together. Running is my personal escape, a way to feel alive and free. Southeast Asia holds a special place in my heart, especially Cambodia, where I lived for 15 months when Elias was just a baby. The people and culture there left an indelible mark on my soul.
