In-Person Legal Assistant at Saavedra & Perez Law
As an In-Person Legal Assistant, I play a key role in ensuring that all legal filings are accurate, complete, and professionally prepared. I file packages to USCIS and the Court, making sure every submission is organized and of the highest quality. I carefully review applications to confirm that all forms are current and properly signed.
I also support clients throughout their process by assisting with consultations and answering questions related to billing and filing procedures. Additionally, I guide clients in person during virtual Master Calendar Hearings at our office, helping them understand what to expect and creating a calm environment so they feel more confident and less stressed when facing court.
Why immigration law matters to me
As the daughter of an immigrant mother, I witnessed firsthand the dedication and resilience it takes to build a better life in a new country. Growing up in Southern California, I saw how immigrant families and migrant workers are the foundation of our communities.
Supporting immigration lawyers is deeply meaningful to me because I believe the United States belongs to immigrants just as much as it belongs to me. Everyone deserves the opportunity to share in the country’s beauty, stability, and promise.
Where do I feel like I belong?
Growing up bicultural in the U.S. was not always easy. I often felt the pressure to fit into one identity—either American or Colombian—but I came to understand that I am both.
Over time, I embraced my heritage and upbringing, finding a strong sense of community and purpose in Washington, DC. I still carry with me vivid memories of the avocado and orange groves and the beaches along the California coast where I grew up, and I feel a deep longing to return to Colombia.
Ultimately, I consider myself fortunate to feel at home in many places, knowing that what truly matters is being close to my family and friends.
What brings me joy?
I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors in the sunshine, drinking coffee, and being with family and friends—especially when I can combine all of these at once. I also love traveling, both near and far, and I’m passionate about learning languages through music, films, television, and books.
